Michael Wins Comedy Award

Michael took to the stage in Leicester to compete in his first ever stand up comedy competition. Blowing everyone away with his self-deprecating humour, he won over the crowd and was voted the winner of the Funhouse Comedy Gong Award.

The competition is an audience choice format. Comedians from all over the country take turns to step up to the mic and entertain the audience. After 2 minutes, the audience are encouraged to hold up either Red or Green cards. Green signifying they would like the comedian to continue, Red signifying they want them off the stage.

"I launched into my life story and every time the light came on, prompting the crowds response, all I could see was a sea of green cards. This was the case every time the light came on until I was announced as having made it to the final."

Michael went on to the final, where each finalist is given just 1 minute to win over the audience.

"When the audience were asked by way of applause to show who they thought the winner was, I received one of the loudest crowd reactions of my life!"

Winning a Gong award puts Michael in rarefied air and could signify the next step in his comedy career.
